OFFICE CLEANING TIPS
A clean workplace and clean office will help you and your staff work efficiently and ultimately be more productive. Following our previous blog on general cleaning tips here are a few tips to improve work space and desk.
· Take care of your computer hardware. Computer and consoles can overheat if you allow dust to build up around the fan.
· Useisopropyl alcohol on office hardware. This is an excellent way of getting rid of gunk. Use with a Qtip, microfiber cloths and clean gently.
· Sticky residue builds ups on scissors, making them difficult to use and potentially attracting dirt and germs. Dip a cloth in vinegar and give the blades a wipe down. This quickly removes the residue and helps stop the blades from rusting. While you’ve got the vinegar to had you can also clean your stapler, holepunch and other desktop items.
· Micro fibre clothes are an essential part of keeping your work area dust free. Keep one handy in your desk drawer so whenever you’re holding on the phone you can take a few seconds to wipe your desk and computer screen. In the days of COVID its useful to have hand sanitiser available as well.
· Blinds can be a real dust trap and rarely get cleaned. With venetian blinds you're probably worried about slicing your fingers on those sharp edges. For a quick and safe way to clean use an old sock to protect your hand. Put your hand inside the sock and dip it into a 50/50 mixture of water and white vinegar.
· White boards and permanent markers simply don’t mix. If a mistake happens you can fix this by using a dry erase marker and writing over the permanent marker. Make sure you cover it completely before wiping clean with a soft cloth.
· Fabric softener sheets are designed to be used in your tumble dryer, but you can use them in the office as well. Hide them behind a radiator or potted plant to conceal musty smells. You can also rub them over your clothes to reduce static or place them in your clothing drawers at home.
· Eating at your desk inevitably leads to crumbs getting lost between the keys on your keyboard. We all do it. You can use a sticky note from your pad and slide the sticky edge along the gaps to pick up the debris. Another trick is to turn your keyboard over and lightly tap the behind. You will be amazed at the amount of dirt and debris that comes out.
· Same with your mouse. Make sure its cleaned regularly including trackballs where dust can build up and affect its speed.
· Desks tend to get cluttered during the day with electronic devices, paperwork, used coffee cups and the usual office stuff. The key to keeping a clean and efficient desk is to stay on top of the clutter. Take a minute at the end of the day to put away everything you’ve used. This means its also easier for professional cleaners to do their job.
